Our vision for education at Amesbury School is:

"that EVERY child will experience what it means to be fully human and continually fulfil his/her potential"

It has to become a global educational priority today for those in education to evolve their ability to think, but also to lay the foundations for an education that ensures our children and young people develop as postformal thinkers.

A great number of the arguments for 21st century learning are economically driven. Once upon a time it was expected that 50% of students would fail and 50% would pass any examination (marking was according to the Bell Curve) and this was considered OK because our industrial society demanded unskilled labour.

But mentors and coaches ... also challenge you and encourage you to go to tough places and spaces – to do the thing that you most want to avoid because it scares you silly. They [do it]... because they know that it is in those spaces that we find out...who we are and where we stand.

"They were requiring we show care, but there was no requirement for them to show the same level of care by funding for care."

"The world has changed and education can no longer be founded on the sacrifice and goodwill of its employees. Education must reinvent itself as a sustainable undertaking."

Yes, I know....some university papers are not as long as this! A long read, but a worthwhile read.

Mr Roger Moses responded to Lesley Murrihy's comments regarding the front page Sunday Star Times' article about modern learning environments. Mr Moses asked for his article to be shared with the school community. His response and Lesley's further response are included below.

I don’t normally read the Sunday papers, but when someone told me about the article on the front page of the Sunday Star Times over the weekend, I thought it was time to begin. I found a copy of the article and my Sunday paper reading began. Essentially what I encountered was an argument against being forced to comply with Ministry of Education guidelines to modernise learning spaces because these open spaces “fail” students. The following is my response to the article.
